Delicious abalone cuisine at affordable prices- Just for students
In a dining culture where speed and consistency in food quality are a must, fast food is a ubiquitous facet of life in Singapore. But abalone fast food? As unusual as it may sound, the Ah Yat group of restaurants has introduced its first abalone restaurant with a more youth-oriented and affordable concept at Orchard Central.

While abalone used to be marketed as a premium delicacy that is expensive and consumed only during special occasions and festivals, this novel business concept is set to defy tradition by drawing younger diners, especially students who wish to get a taste of abalone at extremely affordable prices.
Venturing beyond the traditional serving of braised abalone with oyster sauce, the new menu also features exciting and innovative fusion dishes where abalone is combined with international cuisine. From abalone with chicken kebabs, abalone with western food like fish fillet rice, pork chop and even angus beef steak in hotplates, these unique meals will keep you coming back for more. There is also an array of Japanese inspired abalone fusion dishes, such as the Japanese char siew ramen with abalone and the grilled unagi with abalone bento, which stay true to authentic Japanese flavours while bringing out the essence of abalones. Dim sum lovers will be overjoyed to find abalone accompanying their dumplings and steamed buns. The health conscious foodie could also opt for a wholesome serving of chinese chicken herb soup with cordyceps and double boiled abalone.
Perhaps the signature dish would be the baked whole abalone with fried rice, stewed to perfection where aromatic oyster sauce and succulent abalone essence oozes out of every bite, complete with mushroom and chicken strips. The abalone three treasure meal is also a hot favourite, offering all three delicacies of shark's fin, superior bird nest and abalone rice for a bargain price of $29.80.
Freshness and quality is assured with the use of premium Yoshihama abalones bred and harvested from Xiamen, housing one of the world's largest abalone farm.
The ambience is also great for youth gatherings and light banter. Its decor is a meeting point of the traditional and contemporary, brightly lit and spacious with a life size calligraphy bill board as wall paper.
"We want to bring abalone to the masses and to have quality food at such competitive prices, it's something you can't find elsewhere," says District Manager Mr Danny Chu.
